Hello blog friends,
The challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow this week is to alter something in a vintage or shabby style. Oh dear, once again out of my comfort zone of card making! After a restless night of what to do for this challenge I started to dig up some old scrap. I found an empty coffee tin in the storeroom and decided to alter it into a gift tin to hold some vintage goodies. I hope this will make a useful gift to someone who loves vintage as much as I do. During the week a dear friend, Tienie, send me some script paper that I used to cover the tin inside and out. For the outside I glued on several layers which I distressed quite heavily for a vintage look. Well I have several photos of the tin with all the embellishments and also of the goodies that I filled the gift tin with. I would love to know what you think of my project – if it is a thumbs up from you, I have some other tins in the storeroom waiting to be altered!
Challenges:
- The Shabby Tea Room Challenge #158 (ends 03/25) – Anything Goes
- Really Reasonable Ribbon Ramblings Challenge #68 (ends 03/28) – Flowers and Ribbon
- It’s All About The Vintage and The Beauty Challenge #39 (ends 03/28) – Dreams of Spring with Lace

- Through The Craftroom Door Challenge (ends 03/25) – Anything Goes
A close up of the flower bouquet and ribbon
The lid, embellished with metal butterflies, roses, lace, pearls and wax cord
The side of the tin decorated with layers of distressed script paper, lace and pearls
I added some vintage goodies such as lovely crocheted and guipere lace . The vintage cards are from Janet K-Design and embellished with a rose and metal butterfly. The embellished cards can be re-used as tags on other projects.
Beautiful vintage buttons from my button box and some fancy pins
I added a few doilies, wax cord on little wooden spools and a gorgeous little scissor.
Vintage ribbon on a card and another hand dyed piece kept together in a bundle with a silver buckle.
All the little vintage gifts fits perfectly inside the tin.
Project details:
- Empty coffee tin
- Script paper
- Heritage Modge podge (Matt)
- Ribbon, lace and button cards by Janet K-Design Free digital vintage stuff
- Lace
- Paper roses
- Pearls
- Wax cord
- Metal butterflies
- Hug Snug seam binding “Oloroso” and “Cameo Beige”

Thanks for visiting today. I think altering this tin encouraged me to start early on handmade Christmas gifts this year. Sigh. Emily, how gorgeous. Yours is the only blog I have visited today. I always feel peaceful and happy visiting you. Gorgeous gift set. I wonder if the same can be done with old oatmeal containers. It would be a fun project to make. So many beautiful details – the shading, colors, and magnificent embellies. Very pretty! hugs, de
