Swallows

Hello blog friends,

We have a new fun challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow this Saturday. The theme is to create a vintage or shabby chic card or project in the colors of your flag. I always admire the different flags at international meetings or sport gatherings – it is such a display of colors and designs. This week we are also pleased to introduce our monthly Guest Designer at Sugar Creek Hollow. She is  Sanja Grdinic from Croatia.

SA_FlagWe have six colors on our South African flag – black, white, red, blue, green and yellow. This became the first flag of a united South Africa on 27 April  1994, at the same time that South Africa held its first democratic  elections. Red, white and blue are common in historical flags of South Africa, including colonial flags of Britain and Holland, while green, black and yellow or gold were often colours of the African people. The main design of the flag, the green ‘Y’ starting at the flag post and coming together in the centre of the flag, can be seen  as the coming together of the different people of South Africa, who then take the road ahead together. (Source: Scouts South Africa)

This was quite a challenge for me to use so many bright colors on my card. The image of the beautiful and graceful swallows is from The Graphics Fairy. To achieve a shabby look to my card I painted the roses with gesso. Hope you like my take on the challenge.

Oh my, only you could take such bright colors and turn them into a vintage creation. This is MAGNIFICENT. My comment would be enormous if I outlined every single thing I love about it, so suffice it to say I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. (Not shouting, just being emphatic.) And I always learn a little something new when I visit your work, this time putting gesso on roses (flowers) to tone them down. Thank you for another gorgeous creation and the inspiration! I’m pinning this for future enjoyment!
