Little Angel

Hello everyone,

This is my last Christmas card this year, not that I made enough, but I am so far behind that the best option is to buy cards and  to  get them to my friends and family in time. The challenge at For Fun Challenges is week is to create a Christmas card – so for all of you that need more Christmas cards why not enter into the challenge. There is also a DT call at the For Fun Challenges. If you are interested to become part of a lovely design team and have lots of fun hop over to For Fun Challenges for details. I am stepping down from the For Fun Challenges design team (this was really a tough decision) due to my professional workload. My six months with the design team was so much fun and I had learned so many new things from the design team ladies – I am going to miss you all. I will still be around in blogland to join challenges and visiting your lovely blogs for inspiration.

For this week’s Christmas card I choose a green, pink, maroon and silver colour combination. For the layout I used a Lili of the Valley sketch by Dena. I am trying to do more sketch challenges as I am always struggling with sketches – don’t know why because sketches are supposed to make layout easier!

I also enter my card for the following challenges:

A close-up to see the Crystal glitter on the flowers and the angel’s wings and garland.

I used the following to create the card:

  • Lili of the Valley stamp ‘Angels praying’ (So80)
  • Computer generated sentiment
  • Peel Off’ silver corners
  • White and green cardstock
  • Wilson and Maclagan Designer paper CB122 – Paper pack Brown
  • Silver gemstone
  • Silver cord
  • Petaloo Velvet Hydrangeas – Chantilly Collection
  • Cuttlebug “Floral Borders”
  • Marianne Design Creatables LR0106 “Leaf”
  • Lyra Rembrandt-Aquarell watercolour pencils for colouring
  • Skwiglues Glitter glue “Crystal PCR01”

Hope to see your card at For Fun Challenges this week. Enjoy your week and happy crafting

A Big Hug

Hello everyone,

This week I decided to use one of my Kanban stamps I ordered a few months ago from Funky Kits. The image is from  the Kanban clear set “Little Friends, Big Hugs”. For me, the  children and animal combination, in these stamps are absolutely gorgeous. The circular sentiment stamp from Lili of the Valley arrived Monday afternoon in my postal box, and what a joy to use two new stamps on one card!  I was eagerly waiting for a chance to use these beauties and the For Fun Challenge this week was the ideal opportunity. Carol, design team member at For Fun Challenges created a lovely sketch to work with this week.

Gingerbread Baby

Hello everyone,

For Fun Challenges is sponsored this week by The Stamp Fairy. They have some really gorgeous images in store and also some freebies to try out before you buy. The Stamp Fairy sponsored prize for this challenge is 3 digital images of the winner’s choice. To be eligible to win the prize at For Fun the challenge is to create a non-traditional shaped card and maybe you can win the prize– think out of the box and experiment with shapes. The card must not be square or A2 size, but can be round, star, triangle, business sized envelope etc. I decided on a three-fold concertina card and cut away a diagonal section running from the edge of the first panel to midway down the end panel. My image  is “Gingerbread Babies Candy Canes” kindly sponsored by The Stamp Fairy. I used a A4 paper and my Crafter’s Companion to fold the card. To decorate the diagonal section I punched leaves with my Martha Stewart punch and added red pearls for berries to form a wreath.

I entered my card for the following challenges:

Poinsettias

Hello everyone,

An easy challenge this week at For Fun Challenges as you can let go on creativity – the theme “anything goes”.  As Christmas is only 32 days away I decided on a Christmas card for this challenge. Last Sunday we had our regular Christmas evening of song at our church. This is always very special and the Christmas hymns just a joy to sing. Maybe that’s why I chose the music sheet paper and little ornamental bells to create my card. I love the poinsettia flowers from Prima although the large poinsettia may be a little bit too overwhelming for the card.

After completion the card also fits the following challenges:

I used the following to create this card:

  • Red, brown and white cardstock
  • 7Gypsies’ designer paper “Orchestra”
  • Lili if the Valley stamp “Christmas Ted – Big Star”
  • Kaisercraft clear stamp “Tis The Season Collection”
  • Bells
  • Gold thread
  • Prima poinsettias “Holiday Celebration Snowflake”
  • Martha Stewart punch “Oak leaf”
  • Martha Stewart punch “Doily lace”
  • Gold doily
  • Twinkling H2O for colouring
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink “Vintage photo”
  • FlowerSoft “Polar White”
  • Ranger Stickles “Golden Rod”

The Design Team ladies at For Fun Challenges created a variety of cards for your inspiration. Hop over to see all the lovely cards and I hope to see your card at the challenge this week.

Have a wonderful week and happy crafting.

Harvest Time

Hello everyone,

The theme for this week’s For Fun Challenge is Turkey Day or Thanksgiving. For my DT card I used a stamp I bought a very long time ago – the copyright date on the stamp is 1999. The stamp is from PSX who discontinued their stamp range about 2 years ago – what a pity because of the exquisite designs and quality of these stamps. I love this specific stamp because it reminds me of my father’s truck with which our family had so much fun on the farm. The truck is a 1934 Dodge and owned by my grandfather. After grandfather passed away my father inherited old “Spokie”. Usually my father transported hay and lucerne from the farm-lands to the cattle kraals and pony stables. Our children always jumped on to have a free ride back home, clinging for dear life to stay on top of the load. Today the truck is a vintage and my brother-in-law renovated “Spokie” to its original glory. Yes, one can only be thankful for such wonderful moments and memories we can still cherish.

I also entered my card for the following challenges:

I used the following to create the card:

  • PSX stamp  K-2040
  • White and blue cardstock
  • K and Company Designer paper “Wild Saffron”
  • Heritage white acrylic paint for distressing
  •  Twinkling H2O’s and Perfect Pearls for colouring
  • Spellbinders Shapeabilities “Fancy tags”
  • Computer generated sentiment

The Design Team ladies at For Fun Challenges created the most beautiful cards for your inspiration. Hope you will take part in the fun at For Fun Challenges this week. It can’t wait to see your creations linked on the blog.

Greetings from South Africa and thanks for stopping by,

Sunny Days

Hello everyone,

The challenge at For Fun Challenges this week is to create a card with embossing.  As the year 2010 is speeding to an end with lots of activities and year-end functions I opted for a quick card for this challenge. I used the “Swiss dots” folder to emboss the layer at the bottom of the card and added this cute Penny Black image “Sunny Days”.   The sentiment was cut with the Cuttlebug die “Friends”. It is summer now for us in the southern hemisphere and we have experienced already some very hot sunshine days in South Africa. So here is my card to celebrate summer in South Africa.

I entered my card for the following challenges:

I used the following to create the card:

  • White and yellow cardstock
  • Penny Black stamp “Sunny Days”
  • Cuttlebug embossing folder “Swiss Dots”
  • Cuttlebug die “Friends”
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities die “Ovals”
  • Yellow gemstones
  • Twinkling H2O’s for colouring

Hope to see your card at For Fun Challenges this week.

Wheelbarrow Elegance

Hello everyone,

It feels like ages since I last made a card with flowers, and actually I love flowers. Daisy’s Digi Doodles is our sponsor this week at For Fun Challenges and the Design Team could each choose a lovely image from Daisy’s Digi Doodles fabulous shop to create a card for this challenge. The prize for this week’s challenge is a $10 gift certificate from Daisy’s Digi Doodles.

This week we want to see some metal on your creations – this can be brads, charms, etc. When I chose this “Wheelbarrow” image I didn’t have a particular style in mind on how to create the card. For the metal requirement of the challenge I dug this silver photo corners out of my stash and, viola, the theme was set! An old Victorian style card with soft pinks and a little dash of blue colour and of course for a nostalgic look,  lots of delicate flowers. The pearls were added on second thought – still don’t know if that was the right decision.

I entered my card also for the following challenges:

I used the following to create the card:

  • Daisy’s Digi Doodles image “Wheelbarrow”
  • White and pink cardstock
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Pearls
  • Silver photo corners

  • Odourless mineral spirits
  • Paper flowers
  • Martha Stewart punch “Oak Leaf”
