Pink Hearts

Hello everyone,

Valentine’s day is just around the corner and with that in mind we have a new challenge at Double D Challenges . To celebrate this day of love our theme is “Pretty Pink Hearts” and we want to see lots of pink and hearts on your creations. The inspiration board is at the bottom of my post.

As the challenge requires pink, I always love to make it in the shabby style. I used Spellbinders die cut hearts and little gemstone hearts layered on a shabby background paper. For a bit of extra shabbiness I stamped some flourishes on the background with TH distress ink. To finish off I added pretty flowers in different shades of pink, white wax cord bows and lace for embellishments. The sentiment is cut with a Spellbinders die D’Lites “Sentiments Three”.

Hope you can visit the Double D Challenge blog to read about the challenge and prize and to see the lovely creations of the design team ladies.

Blooms and Butterflies

Hello blog friends,

It is a lovely day in South Africa although it is still winter and chilly. I am looking forward to springtime and therefore it was such fun to create my card with a spring flower for the new challenge at The Shabby Tea Room. This fortnight’s challenge is called “Peaches and Cream” accompanied by a lovely photo for inspiration. Our sponsor this fortnight is Crafty Secrets and you could win a fabulous prize! For more details about the challenge, inspirational creations from the design team and the Crafty Secrets prize visit The Shabby Tea Room and please join in the fun. We would love to see your creation for this challenge.

I chose a beautiful gerberia daisy image and sentiment from the “Fairy Wishes” digital stamp set kindly sponsored by Crafty Secrets. I used watercolor pencils to color the image in bright orange and yellow. It was then layered on Spellbinders die cuts “Antique Corner”. I added two butterflies, some pearls, a heart embellishment and a bow to complete the card. Hope you like my take on the challenge – I really struggled to put this card together as this is not colors I usually work with!

Song of Joy

Hello everyone,

Wow, can’t believe how time flies, it is nearly two weeks since I last posted something on my blog. Sometimes life become so hectic it is rather difficult to choose what to leave and what to do. But today I decided to share a card  with my card making friends and to visit their blogs that I neglected the past two weeks. Thanks for everyone who subscribed to my blog the past weeks, I am always surprised how small the world became with modern technology and the interest and care people have in one’s doings. This vintage card I created is a sort of experiment as this is the first time I used a vintage scrap.  I bought the Crafty Secret vintage scraps a while ago but I feel miserable to cut it up  because it is a double-sided page and a few pretty images on the back bites the dust.  This card is a combination of a vintage scrap, die cuts, and true to my stamping addiction, also a rubber stamped image – quite a challenge to design a synchronized layout with so many different elements.. The flowers and bird image were fussy cut, and oh my, the legs of the birds were a job and a half as they were so skinny. I used a scalpel to do this job to prevent not to accidentally amputate a leg!

I created the card with the following challenges in mind:

And here is the card, hope you like it:

 The flowers, children and flourish

The stamped birdies coloured with my Lyra-Rembrandt Aquarelle pencils. It took a little bit of time to fussy cut those skinny legs

A peep at the inside. I kept this quite simple and only used layers and a flourish edged with gold glitter

  • Cream and purple-pink cardstock
  • Prima designer paper “Annalee”

Rosette Flowers

Hello everyone,

Something different (for a change no roses!) from  me today. I bought the Tim Holtz Sizzlets paper rosettes die this weekend and couldn’t wait to get to my craft table to try it out. I just love the way they look  and think one can get very creative with these dies. I kept my rosettes very simple  and only add some pearls to the centers. I had two challenges in mind when creating this card. The challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show is to show distressed  and torned edges on one’s creation. The color combo was from this week’s color  challenge at The Play Date Cafe and what a lovely inspiration photo to work with:

Here is my take on the challenge:

I created the card for the following challenges:

Fancy Bird Tag

Hello everyone,

Another project for the Wild Orchid Crafts blog –  I decided on a tag for a gift box. The rich, warm colours of the roses and cherry blossoms from my WOC guest designer kit and the ruffled gold lurex netting worked wonderfully together – love the way this turned out on the tag. I bought the gold netting from a local haberdashery and was surprised with the effects one can achieve with this. The sentiment stamp is from Crafty Secrets “Garden Girls” clear stamp set and the little birdie from Inkadinkado “Birds Galore” clear stamp set. Hope you like the tag.

I entered the tag in the following challenges:

The lovely gold netting, roses, and silk leaves

The little bird sitting on a nest of natural raffia

I used the following to created the tag:

  • Brown cardstock
  • 7Gypsies designer paper
  • Roses and cherry blossoms available from Wild Orchid Crafts
  • Silk leaves
  • Crafty Secrets sentiment stamp from “Garden Girls” clear stamp set
  • Inkadinkadoo “Birds Galore” clear stamp set for bird
  • Stickles “Golden Rod”
  • Lurex gold netting
  • Lace available from Wild Orchid Crafts
  • Tim Holtz distress inks “Vintage photo”
  • Raffia
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities “Labels Two”
  • Satin ribbon

Thanks so much for stopping by and for your lovely comments.  I wish you a blessed day.

Regards from South Africa,

Amelia.
