You Look Fabulous

Hello friends,

I hope you are all doing well. Today’s post is about the new challenge at Double D Challenges with the theme “Owls and/or Pumpkins”. You can create a card or project inspired by the photo and we want to see those owls or pumpkins! For more information about the challenge and the lovely prize visit the Double D Challenge blog. Looking forward to see your card!

I don’t have any owl or pumpkin dies or stamps and found myself in trouble with this challenge. When visiting a local craft store I saw three beautiful owl embellishments from Tilla’s Handmade Embellishments. Tilla is one of South Africa’s very talented crafters and an absolute pro with electronic die-cutting machines. So these three cute owl embellishments with their googly eyes save my life for this challenge. I first stamp the sentiment on a striped background paper with black ink. I layered two die-cut branches on the designer paper, added green leaves and then the two owls with mirror tape for dimension.  The smallest owl I used to embellish the inside of the card. These three owls were just perfect for my card and all credit must go to Tilla’s  embellishments. I think it is time to open my electronic die-cutting machine again … but to be honest I like the manual machines more. I just need some more dies!

I entered my card in the following challenges:

Autumn Time

Hello friends

I hope you are all doing well. Today’s post is about the new challenge at Double D Challenges with the theme “Leaves”. For more information about the challenge and the lovely prize visit the Double D Challenge blog. Looking forward to see your card!

I love to make cards with autumn colours – the browns, oranges, reds and yellows are so warm and earthy. I decided to create a shabby card with a rustic feel for this challenge. I painted a few scraps of papers with my watercolour paints and then die cut the leaves with different sized dies. I layered a scribble circle on a rustic designer paper background and then added the autumn leaves with mirror tape for dimension.  A few green sprigs are also added for more interest. I finished off with a gold die cut sentiment and a wax cord bow. Hope you like my take on the challenge.

I entered my card in the following challenges:

The Lookout

Hello friends,

A new challenge starts today at Double D Challenges. Team Diane is hosting this challenge with the theme “Anything With A Tail”. The team have created a bunch of beautiful cards to inspire you – a visit to the Double D Challenge blog will be worthwhile. We have also a fun prize to give away to one lucky player which will be chosen by Random.org.

I decided on a Penny Black stamp with an adorable cat for this card. I stamped the brick wall with grey ink and layer this on blue card-stock to frame the brick wall. I coloured the image with watercolour pencils, cut it out and layered it on the brick wall background. The pot-plant was stamped twice, which I also fussy cut and added with mirror tape for dimension.. To add more interest and colour I added a die-cut willow branch. I then added a three layer die cut sentiment to finish off .

I entered my card in the following challenges:

Sweet Wishes

Hello friends,

A new challenge starts today at Double D Challenges. Team Darlene is hosting this challenge with the theme “Fruit and/or Vegetables”. The team have created a bunch of beautiful cards to inspire you – a visit to the Double D Challenge blog will be worthwhile. We have also a fun prize to give away to one lucky player which will be chosen by Random.org.

Now onto the details of my card for the new challenge. I only have one die between the tons of dies in my stash that featured fruit. As the die cuts are small I decided to make a row of different fruit across the lower half of the card. I highlighted the stitched border on the die cuts with a white gelly roller pen and also distress the fruit with inks to add depth. I layered the different fruit with mirror tape on the polka dot background and white trellis for dimension. I finished off with a die cut sentiment from black metallic glitter paper.

I entered my card in the following challenges:

“Bee” Happy

Hello friends,

A new challenge starts today at Double D Challenges. Team Diane is hosting this challenge with the theme “BEE”DD_Bee_June2Inspired”. Use bees and/or anything that inspires you on the mood board.
(honeycomb, yellow, black, hexagon etc). The team have created a bunch of beautiful cards to inspire you – a visit to the Double D Challenge blog will be worthwhile. We have also a fun prize to give away to one lucky player which will be chosen by Random.org.

I was inspired by the honeycomb pattern and the bees in the inspiration photo. I used an embossing folder to create a honeycomb background for the card. The embossing folder also have a die-cut,  which I use to fill up the pattern on the top layer with various designer paper. I added a kraft -coloured frame  to the pattern layer. I then die-cut the bees from kraft and sand coloured cardstock and distress the edges. This is the only bee die I own and it is one of the first dies that I purchased with my Cuttlebug in 2009. The bees were added with mirror tape for dimension. I finished off with a combined stamped and die-cut sentiment and a pink heart.

I entered my card in the following challenges:

I really like the shabby outcome of this card.
