Tiny Blessings

Hello friends,

Time for a new challenge at The Shabby Tea Room! This fortnight our theme is called ABC-123 and the challenge is to use the inspiration photo on The Shabby Tea Room blog to create a card or project. This week’s lucky winner will receive a $25 gift certificate from Paper Temptress! I was inspired by the chalk board and the lovely yellow sunflowers in the photo. I used a sentiment stamp from JustRite as the main focus on black paper. I distressed the edges with white craft paint for a chalk board effect. I layered the stamped sentiment, ink-pot and pen on a vellum banner and finished off with lots of sunflowers, twine, a butterfly and a yellow bow.

I entered my card in the following challenges:

Happy Birthday To You

Hello blog friends,

It is time for a new challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow this Saturday, I can’t believe  how time flies. The theme of the challenge starting today is Let’s Celebrate. You can create a card or any other paper crafting project for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. as long as it is in the vintage or shabby chic style. Hope you can join us this fortnight at Sugar Creek Hollow.

I need a few cards for friends and family who are celebrating their birthdays in September, so I was really happy to make a birthday card. I used designer paper from the Prima Botanical collection and some tulle for the layered background. The birdcage is from Cottage Cutz and one of my favorites. It took a little bit of time to glue all the pieces together but I always love the  result of this beautiful die. The cream flowers are from the Prima Eminence collection and the dusty pink paper blooms from Kaisercraft. I used a lot of dies for this card and for a list please see the project details at the end of this post.

White Baubles and Bling

Hello everyone,

My project today is a guest designer card for Crafting by Designs challenge blog. It is such a privilege to create a card for one of my favourite challenge blogs. The theme for this challenge is “White on White”, not so easy for me and definitely a challenge. If you want to join in Rene asked to create a white-on-white project and it can be any theme! White must be the main (or only) colour. The main image can be coloured (if you have an image).

For my white creation I decided on lots of texture, layering, embossing, embellishments and also a distressing.  I used a Sizzix die for the Christmas ornaments and a Spellbinders Shapeabilities die for the leaves. It took a little bit of time to do all the layering on the baubles but I really love the outcome. And with all my Christmas cards I added a lot of glitter to make it sparkle!

Challenges:

The sentiment stamp is from Kaisercraft. I used a Tim Holtz Alterations embossing diffuser to create an oval for the sentiment.

  • Spellbinders Shapeabilities “Foliage”
  • Sizzix Sizzlits die “Ornament with Flowers” 657226

Thanks for visiting my blog today, I appreciate it so much. To see more inspiring “White on White” projects a visit to Crafting by Designs is worthwhile. Enjoy a wonderful day and happy crafting.

Live, Laugh, Love

Hello friends,

The challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow this fortnight is to create a mixed media project or card  in the vintage or shabby chic style. Your card or project must reflect lots of different techniques and media like textures (such as lace, paper, texture paste) and embellishments (resin, chipboard, metal etc.). All the designers have created beautiful projects to inspire you and we would love to see your creations at Sugar Creek Hollow this fortnight

I decided to make two canvases in a shabby chic style. As this type of project was a first for me I must admit that it was a learning curve. For the background I used techniques such as masks with glimmer mist and acrylic texture paste, aquarelle pencils and layering with designer paper, doilies and  antique lace. For embellishments I chose  from a wide range  of media. The focus point is a charming resin cherub holding a little bird. This I purchased from our local Crazy Store for a quarter of the price in comparison to resin embellishments in craft stores!. Originally it was a wall hook but my dear husband altered it without any damage to this charming embellishment. I did some wet embossing with PSX embossing powder on the weathered clock, swirl corners and banners. The resin and metal embellishments, paper flowers and chipboard birds are all coated with a layer of gesso, glimmer mist and distress inks for the shabby look. The two canvases are going to be mounted together on glass and then framed in a large white  wooden frame to fill up the space where I want to display it in my craft room.

Challenges:

You can click on the  first  picture for a better view of all the details and embellishments on the canvases.  All supplies I used are listed below.

Canvas_Cherub5

The canvas with the sentiment. The letters were cut with a Sizzix Sizzlits die  “Cute as a Button Alphabet”. The dots and swirl at the top and bottom were done with acrylic texture paste and a stencil. The background on the left hand corner was done with a mask and Cosmic Shimmer vintage mist “Antique Rose”. I added white painted resin corners to the edges of the banners.

For Dad

Hello everyone,

I’m here to share with you my newest card for the Sugar Creek Hollow challenge starting this week. Our theme is Father’s Day and we want to see cards in the vintage or shabby style. Father’s day is just around the corner and what a wonderful opportunity to create something special for him. We also have a guest designer who join us  for this challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow.  She is Ragnhild Øren  and you can see more of her beautiful work here

For my card I decided on a chipboard penny farthing bicycle. I decorated the wheel with a large gold button and was I surprised by the outcome. This bulky embellishment gave a sort of Moroccan feeling to the card which I love with the warm autumn colours. I mounted the penny farthing on a mini clipboard die cut from Tim Holtz and attached Tim Holtz tattered banners to the rear of the bicycle. For the background I used a Tim Holtz weathered clock die cut and a strip of May Arts netting.

I entered my card in the following challenges:

The Distinguished Gentleman

Hello dear blog friends,

This week we have another fun challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow. The theme is to create a vintage, shabby or primitive card or  paper craft  project with both numbers and letters. For me this was a chance to challenge myself with a male card as I always refrain doing these type of cards. I love flowers, lace and dainty embellishments and doing something bold didn’t come easy. The beautiful background paper from 7Gypsies and already printed with script, makes the task easier to meet the theme. I cut the Spellbinders Retro Mod Clock from Tim Holtz Core’dinations Core Color Cardstock and sanded it for a weathered look. To give the clock a little more depth I embellished it further with bronze chain and gold number stickers. The sentiment stamp is a favorite and from Inkadinkado.

We also say goodbye to two  of our designers, Patti Painter and Heather Hudson. Their beautiful creations will be missed each week. We have three new designers joining our team next week. They are Sherry Hickey, Cathi O’Neill and Moz Roberts. We are looking forward to see their lovely cards on the Sugar Creek Hollow challenge blog.  More news is that beginning next week, May 4th, our challenges will be running every two weeks so you have more time to show us your creations.

I would like to enter my card in the following challenges as well:

Daisies

Hello blogging friends,

From me a Mother’s Day card with some pretty daisies to share today. I am currently recovering from an eye operation, so I can call this card a “one healthy eye creation”. Hubby said everything is glued thoroughly and the papers are not crooked. I believe him and hope he has a “crafters’ eye”. I used the inspiration picture from the Shabby Tea Room Challenge this week to create my card. I had the pretty white daisies for ages in my stash and was delighted to see it fits the challenge theme so well. The teapot die cut is from Joy Crafts. This was such a fun card to make with its sunny yellow and summer green colours – hope you like it! Here is the inspiration picture:
